BAFANA Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes South Africa’s impressive Fifa World Cup 2026 campaign should now serve as the platform for the national team to challenge seriously for Africa Cup of Nations honours.

The Belgian tactician addressed the media on Thursday after the squad returned home to a hero's welcome at OR Tambo International Airport following their historic run in North America.

Bafana captured the imagination of the country after reaching the knock-out stages of the tournament for the first time before eventually falling to co-hosts Canada in the Round of 32.

Despite the disappointment of the exit, the campaign represented another major milestone in Bafana's steady rise under Broos.

The veteran coach has now overseen a remarkable turnaround since taking charge in 2021, guiding South Africa to an AFCON bronze medal before leading the national side to its best-ever World Cup performance.
