Artscape Accessibility Festival a celebration of artists with disabilities

THE Artscape Accessibility Festival is more than a celebration of performance - it is a declaration of rights, dignity, and visibility.

This was according to Artscape CEO Marlene Le Roux, as the Artscape's inaugural Accessibility Festival kicked off yesterday to celebrate and uplift the voices of artists with disabilities.

The event aligns with this year's International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) theme of 'Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress. The event promises to be a vibrant showcase of artistic talent, creativity, and community engagement and runs until Saturday.

Yesterday marked International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a significant occasion for reflection on the progress society has made toward inclusivity and accessibility.

The Artscape invited patrons to immerse themselves in a dynamic programme focused on the artistry and experiences of individuals with disabilities, providing a platform for often-overlooked narratives to emerge.

"Rooted in the belief that the arts are a powerful force for social transformation, the festival honours the resilience and creativity of artists with disabilities, who continue to challenge stereotypes and inspire audiences through their craft," Le Roux said.
