Teen's sky-high entrance symbolises triumph, hope

A MITCHELLS Plain teenager made history and inspired many when she became the first Spine Road High matriculant to arrive at her dance by helicopter.

This was a nod to her dream of joining the skies as an advanced life support paramedic one day.

Gabby-Lee Davids, 18, said it was thanks to Helivate, the helicopter company that made this moment possible. “Their professionalism and support helped turn a lifelong dream into reality,’ she told the Cape Argus.

But for Davids, it wasn't just about the moment, but showing everyone that you could defy the odds and become anything that you set your mind to.

“I reside in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. It’s where I grew up, and it will always be home to me,’ she said.

“The idea was mine. Growing up, there were times when people looked down on me, underestimated me, and didn’t believe I could achieve much.
