SIGNIFICANCE OF AFRICA DAY AND ITS CELEBRATION AT ISTANBUL UNIVERSITY

AFRICA Day, celebrated globally every year on May 24, marks the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, which later became the African Union (AU).

This historic day symbolises the unity, resilience, and aspirations of African nations in their pursuit of independence, peace, and development. It also serves as a reminder of Africa's growing global presence and the importance of strengthening partnerships between the continent and the rest of the world.

This year, I had the privilege of celebrating Africa Day on Monday at Istanbul University, where an exceptional program brought together distinguished African guests and Turkish academics. The event highlighted the deepening relationship between Türkiye and the African continent, both in academia and diplomacy.
