Ramaphosa’s Commission on TRC is misguided

PRESIDENT Ramaphosa’s mooted establishment of a commission to investigate the reasons why The Truth and Reconciliation Commissions’ (TRC’s) recommendation into persecution of those who were culpable for political crimes before 1994 will possibly fail.

This sounds insensitive to those who have always called for the prosecution of these culprits especially to the families of the victims of these crimes. But these issues should be confronted.

For one, just what is going to be achieved by identifying the reasons why these prosecutions have not been instituted? Will those people and organs of state found culpable be prosecuted?

This seems doubtful if it took the state more than 30 years to prosecute those who were fingered as the perpetrators of these crimes.
