Rabada's misstep a sobering moment
Cape Argus
|May 05, 2025
IT WAS with great disappointment that the news broke on Saturday that the Proteas’ Kagiso Rabada had tested positive for a banned substance, as confirmed by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport.
-
When the 29-year-old returned early from the Indian Premier League citing “personal reasons”, there was little reason to question the explanation. A few shrugged their shoulders and quickly moved on to the next piece of news, unconcerned.
It has now been revealed that Rabada tested positive for a "recreational drug”, the nature of which remains undisclosed. He has been provisionally suspended from the game, with more severe sanctions to be decided if deemed necessary.
