Outrage as uncle accused of raping 21-month-old boy seeks bail

THE man accused of brutally raping and assaulting a 21-month-old boy in Tafelsig has been identified as the child’s uncle, while furious community leaders and residents are calling for his bail to be denied.
The 21-year-old man, who cannot be identified, made his first appearance at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he indicated he would be applying for bail.
The matter was postponed to November 25.
Irate residents attended the court case and told the Cape Argus they would petition against his bail request.
