Inquest into cancer patient's death

POLICE are awaiting the findings of an autopsy to determine what the cause of death was for a cancer patient from Elsies River after claims were made that he died following being attacked by cops.

Police have since opened an inquest docket into the death of Cheslin Christians, 39.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that the docket was opened for investigation and said the cause of Christians’ death must still to be determined.

“Still awaiting the autopsy report to determine the cause of death as it is still undetermined if the cause of death is related to the alleged assault. The victim died one day after the alleged incident," he said.

Christians died in hospital on November 5 and the Cape Crime Crisis Coalition (C4) believes the assault may have played a role in his death.
