FIRE crews continue to battle flare-ups in the Aalvyndal area near Mossel Bay, with authorities confirming the blaze is largely contained and no structures currently under threat. | Garden Route SPCA

FIREFIGHTING operations remain active in Aalwyndal and surrounding areas in Mossel Bay as crews continue to monitor and manage flareups following a devastating vegetation fire that broke out on Tuesday.

The Garden Route SPCA has taken in three dogs, eight birds, and one tortoise for safety and medical care.

In an update yesterday, Mossel Bay Municipality confirmed the fire's earlier spread to the Num Num area on the northeastern flank has been contained. Other flanks of the fire are also contained, although active firefighting continues on the northwestern flank at the top of Aalwyndal.
