Bridging the gap between generations

AHEAD of Youth Day, the Cape Argus asked young people across the Western Cape what they would say to the youth of 1976 if given the chance. The responses gathered speak to a generation still grappling with inequality and access to education. We share their voices as a reminder that the struggle for opportunity is far from over.

IT’s truly admirable to see how the youth of 1976 armed themselves with bravery despite their lives being marked by impuissance.

They were pioneers of change, and what makes their actions all the more admirable is the fact that they did so in the face of fear. They rebelled and stood up to danger, having endured enough and deciding it was time to show resilience and hold the perpetrators of apartheid accountable by consciously putting their lives on the line.
