CAMBRIDGESHIRE saw its first snowfall of the year this week after days of subzero temperatures.

Whilst many opt for building snowmen or having a snowball fight, skaters have been taking to the ice on the Fens.

Skating on the Fens has long been a tradition, and is possible when flooded fields freeze over.

In order for the ice to be strong enough, there needs to be four nights of frost with temperatures of -4C or colder, with barely any thawing during the days.
