MEN'S TEAM SUFFER HEAVY LOSS TO HITCHIN IN PREMIER DIVISION
-
CAMBRIDGE South Hockey Club men’s first team’s search for a first win of the East Hockey Men’s Premier Division season will go on for another week after a heavy 9-3 loss in Hitchin.
This one never looked likely to be the venue as Blueharts currently lead the East Premier table, and things looked ominous for South when the hosts went in front from the penalty spot after eight minutes play.
South came roaring back though, to find themselves ahead at the end of the opening quarter thanks to Tim Winter's penalty corner strike and an open play goal from Ben Lindars.
The day unravelled for South either side of halftime as their 2-1 lead ballooned into a 7-2 deficit, Blueharts rattling home six times inside 25 minutes of play. The final quarter was calmer, with South getting their third of the afternoon through Willow Mandil and managing to avoid shipping double figures, in part thanks to the performance of their player-of-the-match Nik Patel at right-back. But that was the limit of the successes on a sobering afternoon.
South seconds were brought down to earth after last week’s 6-2 win over Bourne Deeping as they went down by the same score at Ely City firsts in Division 2NW.
