US gold futures top $4,000 as record run gathers pace

US GOLD FUTURES surged past the $4,000 per ounce milestone for the first time on Tuesday, driven by expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate cut later this month and persistent safe-haven demand due to the ongoing US government shutdown.

US gold futures for December delivery settled 0.7% higher at $4,004.40, after hitting a high of $4,014.60.
Spot gold was up 0.6% to $3,985.82 per ounce as of 1:48 p.m. EDT (17:48 GMD), after hitting an all-time high of $3,990.85 earlier in the session.
‘The primary market for spot gold is the London over-the-counter (OTC) market, which serves as the global benchmark for pricing.
