The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was a net buyer of US dollars in January, purchasing $2.52 billion in the foreign exchange market, its first net purchase in eight months, according to the central bank’s monthly bulletin.

The last time the central bank was a net buyer was in May 2025.

During the reported month, the RBI bought $27.99 billion, while it sold $25.47 billion. The central bank had net sold $10 billion in December. In the current financial year till January, the central bank net sold $50.78 billion. In 2024-25, the central bank net sold $34.5 billion.
