In a rollicking start to its campaign, India bagged five medals on the opening day of the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, moving to third position behind the host nation and Hong Kong.

Indian athletes gave strong performances on Sunday morning to win medals in rowing and shooting, picking up three silver and two bronze medals. Rowers Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh won silver in the men's lightweight doubles sculls event. The duo finished behind China's Junjie Fan and Man Sun, and ahead of Uzbekistan.
