SOME OF OUR CHAMPIONSHIP WRITERS GIVE THE LOWDOWN ON HOW TEAMS HAVE FARED

NOW that the transfer market is closed for business, the debate that usually rages in the aftermath is “who won the window?

Derby County, like so many other Championship clubs had a busy time, with 13 players arriving and 13 players leaving.

Substantial investment has been made in the squad, most notably through the arrival of Patrick Agyemang for £5.9m from MLS side Charlotte FC, followed by Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis and Max Johnston from Strum Graz, both costing seven-figure fees.

But they are not the only Championship club to have invested heavily.

Here we have asked the writers in our media group who cover Championship sides to give their verdict on their respective club's summer window.

Birmingham City

■Alex Dicken - Birmingham Live

Blues have bet big on experience in the hope that it will drive them to the Premier League.

Six of their 12 summer signings are 28 or older, three are into their 30s, and three have already celebrated promotion to the Premier League.

There is plenty of Championship experience but Blues’ two new strikers - Kyogo Furuhashi and Marvin Ducksch - have never played in England before and the team’s success could well depend on how much of the load they can take off talisman Jay Stansfield.

Blackburn Rovers

■Elliott Jackson - The Lancashire Telegraph

It’s been a summer of huge turnover at Ewood Park as 10 have signed but six have left, too.

With the sales of Callum Brittain, Lews Travis and Dom Hyam, on deadline day, it’s a big gamble.

In their place are a lot of unknown quantities which no doubt have potential.

But around 2,000 Championship appearances have left Rovers’ squad across the summer and that comes with great risk.

Bristol City

■Dan Carter - Bristol Live

Considering City only paid a fee for a single player this summer, their business has been incredibly smart.
