Trophy loss but it's a memorable night

BURTON Albion’s Vertu Trophy hopes ended with a home defeat to Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night in an entertaining cup tie which did have the positive of young Zach Scutt scoring his first professional goal on debut and a host of youngsters featuring.
A brilliant brace by Omar Bogle in the opening period of the first half before he was taken off decided the tie with quickfire goals from each side at the start of the second half and a missed Fabio Tavares penalty.
It left the Brewers in third place with three points above Liverpool under 21s on two but below Crewe on nine and Chesterfield on four.
Gary Bowyer’s line up featured a number of changes as he opted for a complete overhaul to the starting side that was victorious against Bradford City at the weekend.
With a big game against 21st placed Blackpool on the horizon this weekend and all the energy exerted during that heroic 2-1 win three days prior, Bowyer took the opportunity to give some of his squad members much needed minutes and others a rest as he rang the changes.
Among them, Julian Larsson returned. The Swedish striker scored in Albion's Vertu Trophy opener against Liverpool U21s but has made only one substitute appearance since then due to injury. Jack Hazlehurst was also a notable name while Tavares captained the side.
