PLANS to demolish old Burton buildings and replace them with new shops and a bus station started life in 1970.

Town's facelift plan meant the demolition of buildings

After a decade of debate, the radical plan to give Station Street and Union Street a facelift was partially approved.

The work would involve demolishing the empty Staffordshire Knot pub in Station Street and two adjoining shops.

In Station Street the plan would see the demolition of the old library and several council-owned buildings.
