FEARS VILLAGES COULD BE RINGED BY 'TRUMP-LIKE BORDER FENCES'

- By EDDIE BISKNELL Local democracy reporter

VILLAGES will be “ringed with industrial energy sites”, heaps of earth, CCTV cameras and “Trump-like border fences” if councillors do not act, a meeting has heard.

At a South Derbyshire District Council meeting, decisions were made on four separate battery energy storage sites (BESS).

These would be capable of storing electricity from renewable sources and could power thousands of homes.

Two of the four decisions, both of which were refused, were for 96 containers in Caldwell Lane, Drakelow, and 88 in Twyford Road, Twyford, which have both already been taken to appeal by their applicant - Enso Green Holdings SS.

Meanwhile, a planned 24-container battery storage site in Bakeacre Lane, Findern, was approved, and a decision for a 104-container site in Derby Road, Egginton, was deferred.
