'Support we had from community is overwhelming

COMMUNITY fundraisers have netted more than £35,000 for a Burton sports club in need of urgent repairs.
Campaigners have pulled together for Holland Sports Club - which offers football, rugby, cricket, tennis and tug of war, alongside multiple social events - in Barton-under-Needwood.
Alongside the community efforts, the fundraising team is looking to secure cash through grants, charities and business sponsorship.
Building work will begin in April 2026, with the refurbished club launching in September, in time for the rugby and football seasons. The new modern premises will include changing rooms, a physio room, meeting space, large café/bar, and a gym, ensuring it serves both the sporting and wider community for generations.
"The clubhouse is in a desperate situation," said lead fundraiser Jodie Hargreaves. "The support from the community has been overwhelming. We couldn't have raised this much without everyone's help. Every penny counts.
