PAIR RUN TOTAL OF 100KM IN 24 HOURS TO RAISE MONEY FOR MENTAL HEALTH CHARITIES

- By JOSEPH RICHARDS

A COUPLE have gone the extra mile to raise vital funds for young people's mental health charities.

Kelly and Connor Fellows ran 4km every hour for 24 hours around the athletics track at Shobnall Leisure Complex, starting at 5pm on Friday, August 29.

More than 100 people joined them at various times on the track or in the stands to cheer them on as they completed the task.

In the end, Kelly and Connor not only smashed their £3,000 fundraising target, but they also did an extra 4km, completing 100km in total.

The pair were raising money for mental health charity Papyrus as well as to support Glen and Sharron Markey, who lost their daughter Helena to suicide in 2015.

Helena died shortly after having been distressed during an interview regarding her academic results and future options.

Kelly and Connor both hit the pain barrier at various points during the 24-hour stint.

“It was an emotional rollercoaster, but the support from spectators was incredible,” said Kelly.
