BURTON Albion's festive football fixtures began with a Christmas cracker at high-flying Stevenage.

- By DAN NEWBOULD

It looked like they were well on their way to gifting their fans the perfect early Christmas present with another excellent away win when they led at halftime thanks to in form Tyrese Shade, but the hosts came roaring back through Jamie Reid and a Jack Armer own goal.

Anyone thinking the contest was over at that stage, though, was gravely mistaken as this side are made of much sterner stuff and came roaring back themselves though a trademark Jake Beesley header.

The end-to-end game’s goals ended there, but there was still plenty more chances in the entertaining draw.

Supporters travelled in their numbers donning Santa hats and Christmas jumpers singing seasonal songs and hoping for a three point haul, and that’s nearly what they got thanks to Shade’s early opener.

The striker continued his lethal run of form after striking a hat-trick in the FA Cup tie at Brackley Town earlier this month.

With wins over the likes of Cardiff, Bradford and Wimbledon on the road already this season, there were hopes of another right before Christmas.
