Mayor: Axing police and crime commissioners 'a really good thing'

EAST Midlands mayor Claire Ward says the scrapping of police and crime commissioners (PCCs) in England and Wales is a “really good thing”.

The decision to axe the role was announced in November by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, who called PCCs a “failed experiment”.
Elected PCCs such as Derbyshire’s Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts will remain in their jobs until 2028, when the role will be subsumed into strategic mayoral roles such as Ms Ward's, with a number of deputies appointed to help with duties.
