AFTER EPIC TREK ON TWO FEET, HE THEN DID 700 MILES ON TWO WHEELS

- By JOSEPH RICHARDS

Martyn walked 1,250 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats... then biked home to Derbyshire!

WALKING from Land’s End to John O’Groats is a formidable challenge by anyone's standards, but for 65-year-old Martyn Culley, that was only half the adventure.

After reaching the most northerly point of mainland Britain, he decided not to take the train or fly home - but to cycle the entire way back.

The retired Derbyshire postmaster set off from Land’s End on April 1, following a meandering and ambitious walking route that incorporated as many named long-distance trails as possible.

These included the Cotswold Way, Monarch’s Way, the National Forest Way, the Pennine Way, West Highland Way, Great Glenn Way and John O’Groats train.

Martyn explained: “I've wanted to walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats for so long, so on a personal level it's a massive sense of achievement. But I always like a challenge, and after two minutes’ practice in the car park at John o'Groats, I thought 'why not cycle home if it's going to raise even more for Mountain Rescue?’”
