The war didn't instantly end after VE Day as historian Malcolm Goode looks back at events taking place in June 1945

- Malcolm Goode

“STREETS surrounding Christ Church closed”.

These were the headlines in the Burton Observer and Chronicle at the beginning of June 1945 which came as a bit of a surprise to the local community at that time.

This had come about due to a team of builders that had arrived at Christ Church to repair the church spire.

The need for the repair had come about due to the damage caused when the explosion in the nearby Fauld Mines occurred in the November of 1944.
