Council will look to 'rebalance powers in favour of road users'

THE new Reform-led Staffordshire County Council has outlined how it plans to tackle disruption caused by roadworks.

Councillor Peter Mason, below, cabinet member for strategic highways, has written an open letter to residents in Staffordshire detailing the planned changes.

They include alterations to the way works are programmed in, as part of efforts to minimise disruption.

Any new nonessential works in heavily disrupted areas will not be added for the next three months, unless it can be shown that the works will not further impact key routes.

The council is also calling on utility companies to reduce the time emergency works, such as water or gas leaks, take.
