THE latest reworking by Laura Lomas of August Strindberg’s 1888 naturalistic play Miss Julie ideally captures the relationship between Miss Julie, a rich, spoilt 18-year-old, Christine, the close friend from the local council estate, and Christine’s social-climbing boyfriend Jon. Speaking often in media-sized soundbites they expose their deepest inner feelings, with Miss Julie believing herself to be invulnerable - cocooned in her father’s wealth, and cruelly exploiting any weaknesses shown by the other two.
