Stand against hate - and don't be fooled by the far-right

MORE protests are planned around the country, targeting hotels that often house vulnerable asylum seekers - men, women, and children fleeing war, persecution and hardship. These protests, fuelled by far-right rhetoric, aim to dehumanise refugees and turn public frustration against some of the most powerless people in society.

Right-wing politicians and media outlets - including Reform UK and certain factions of the Conservative Party - have helped normalise terms like “illegal migrant”, despite the fact that successive governments have closed almost every safe and legal route to claim asylum in the UK. Language matters. It shapes perception. And this language is designed to strip people of their humanity.

We've seen this tactic before - across history and across the world. Today, Palestinians are being dehumanised to justify ongoing oppression. The same playbook is being used here, against migrants and asylum seekers.
