Restaurant's hit on recipe for success

The Ginger Pig Kitchen in Weston has been receiving rave reviews for years now and, as MARK TAYLOR says, it's easy to see why
THE Ginger Pig Kitchen got its unusual name due to the fact James Baker has ginger hair and fellow co-founder Dave Newman previously ran a hog roast business.
This bistro, close to Weston-super-Mare’s Playhouse theatre, opened on the cusp of lockdown in January 2020 and, having survived the pandemic and cost of living crisis, has since been consistently rated as one of the town’s best restaurants on Tripadvisor.
The Ginger Pig Kitchen makes a point of using local suppliers and that extends to the drinks menu, which includes beers from Pinkers brewery a ten-minute walk from the restaurant as well as Somerset-made Thatchers cider and gin from the E18hteen distillery in North Petherton.
Occupying the former Grove Bistro premises on West Street, it’s a prominent corner site with a contemporary look and numerous piggy artefacts.
