Recycling £5m site boost for zero waste ambition

BRISTOL has taken a major step in its drive to become a zero-waste city with the official opening of a new £5 million materials recycling facility designed to process 'shedloads' more plastic, metal and cardboard.

Unveiled on Wednesday, the state-of-the-art site in Avonmouth is approximately one and a half times the size of the ss Great Britain and will dramatically increase the city's recycling capabilities while supporting local businesses in managing waste sustainably.

Located at the Avonmouth Household Reuse and Recycling Centre on Kings Weston Lane, the 2,160 sq/m building is equipped with advanced sorting and processing equipment to handle significantly larger volumes of recyclables. The facility was developed in partnership with Encon Construction and forms part of Bristol Waste Company's wider environmental strategy.
