'Optimal location' University's Mumbai campus plans approved

THE University of Bristol has been granted approval by the Indian government to create a campus in Mumbai.

The new location will be the university’s first international campus when it opens next year, coinciding with its 150th anniversary and the opening of the new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus back in Bristol.

The university said that it worked closely with partners and the Indian government to identify Mumbai as an optimal location due to the city’s strong reputation for technology, innovation and the arts areas which it said align closely with Bristol's own strengths. Approval was officially granted in New Delhi at an event celebrating the fifth anniversary of India’s National Education Policy 2020, a transformative framework aimed at modernising India’s education system.

Evelyn Welch, vice chancellor and president of the University of Bristol, was formally presented with a letter of intent from Vineet Joshi, the honourable secretary of higher education and acting chairman of the university grants committee.
