Housing Decision pushed back on residential block amid concerns

A DECISION has been delayed on permitting a block of flats next to old cottages and a retirement complex at the top of Whiteladies Road. Developers are planning to build two blocks of flats with 60 new homes and 209 square metres of office space.

But neighbours next to the site are concerned that the buildings will be too close to their homes and too tall. Bristol City Council previously refused permission for very similar plans back in 2021, which were also refused by the government’s Planning Inspectorate in 2023.

Now the developers, Elizabeth Blackwell Properties, have applied again to build the two blocks. One is slightly taller than the previous plans, and further away from a neighbour-ing building — but now also closer to other homes, sparking similar concerns as a few years ago.

One block would be four storeys tall and the other would be six storeys. Councillors on the development control B committee voted to delay making a decision on Wednesday, October 8. Instead they will visit the site to see for themselves how close the new buildings would be to neighbour-ing properties.
