Horse racing Midak could outrun his odds in Epsom Derby
Bristol Post
|June 06, 2025
THIS year’s Derby is one of the most competitive there's been for years.
At least half-a-dozen of the 19 runners have shown enough form or potential not to be surprise winners.
This, the biggest field since 2003, means there are bound to be some hard-luck stories with so many horses careering round Tattenham Corner and trying to counter the camber towards the far side in the home straight, added to the fact that a lot of them won't stay. The largest ever field was 34, but when 26 ran in 1962 seven fell or were brought down and half-a-dozen others impeded.
Ryan Moore has finally plumped for Delacroix over The Lion In Winter, but remember the Aidan O'Brien stable fifth and fourth strings were victorious not so long ago; Wings Of Eagles at 40/1 in 2017 and Serpentine 25/1 in 2020.
