SOMEWHAT reluctantly I decided to watch the latest series of Masterchef.

Reluctantly because in view of the allegations made against both the now-dismissed presenters - particularly the baldy barrow-boy - the entire programme has become somewhat tainted.

But in the light of those dismissals the series has been edited down to offer us rather less of them and rather more of the real stars, the contestants.

And in any case it's in the can and is going out and any token protest I may have demonstrated in deciding not to watch it would have been futile as well as rather pointless.
