Airport launches legal fight to stop subsidy to rival
Bristol Post
|February 11, 2026
BRISTOL Airport has launched a legal challenge against the Welsh Government over a multi-million pound subsidy package for its rival across the Severn.
-
Bristol's bosses claim the £205.2 million funding for Cardiff Airport equates to a taxpayer handout of £71.50 for every new passenger.
The airport argues the financial aid breaches the post-EU subsidy regime under the Subsidy Control Act 2022. It claims the package aims to boost passenger numbers at the government-owned site from under one million to 2.4 million.
