My blood was up - but my donor days sadly gone

Blackpool Gazette

My blood wasn't boiling and hadn't run cold with shock, but I was somewhat outraged leaving my local church, St. Paul's, on Whitegate Drive, Blackpool.

- by Roy Edmonds

I even phoned up She Who Knows to tell her about it, although she was barely a couple of minutes walk away at home.

"I've been to give blood!" I exclaimed, spluttering a little while passing a bus queue and then waving to regulars relaxing outside the Saddle Inn.

"Yes," she said patiently, "you told me you were going to offer, while handing in our raffle tickets, is something wrong?"

"They rejected me, said I was too old!" To add salt to my wounded pride, She Who just laughed, finally managing to console me with, "Well, at least you tried, dear."
