Calm down, Buddy, it's not time to dig out the trimmings

Bank holidays - for those lucky enough not to have to work on them, they can be absolutely delightful.

May is the bank holiday-lover's friend-it has two of them, conveniently situated at the front and the back, like aeroplane toilets.

We occasionally get another tossed our way if someone royal dies or if England's men win a major football trophy (whenever you're ready, lads).

Whether you spend your day pottering around the garden, having a barbecue or-as is so often the case-watching telly while it rains, bank holidays are just a lovely thing to have. Until you realise that, as August's has now gone, the next ones on the calendar are Christmas. Eek!
