With the settled weather and mild temperatures during the last week, the anglers fishing off the Fylde coast have been rewarded with an abundance of whiting, writes BEN CALLIGHAN.

There have also been the odd bass, flatfish, dogfish, thornbacks and bull huss coming up in the mix.

Fleetwood and District Angling Club’s latest club match last weekend was held over high water on the Miners stretch of the Gynn Wall.

Although it was wet at times, the conditions were good with a reasonable swell and colour to the water.

Fifteen member anglers turned out, with the number being affected by another couple of matches that were being held in the region.

All anglers caught in what was generally a whiting fest, though a number of dogfish were claimed.

Neil Porter also landed a 30cm thornback, which was the fish worth the most points.
