SHOCKING pictures revealed towering heaps of Christmas rubbish accumulating across Birmingham after almost a year of industrial action over the bin dispute.

Locals voiced their fury after wheelie bins overflowed with waste over the festive season.

Mounds of black sacks were seen dumped in Small Heath and Bordes-ley Green.

The walkout began in January when Birmingham City Council binmen downed tools over disagreements regarding wages and employment.

Residents said brimming bins and illegally dumped rubbish were creating nightmarish conditions as the strikes appear set to extend beyond New Year.

Father-of-one Paul Dalgliesh, 44, from Small Heath, said: "I was dreading the festive period and within a day after Christmas the rubbish got worse.
