COUNCIL PLANNERS CITE AN 'EXCEPTIONAL NEED' FOR MORE HOUSING

- SAM GREENWAY

A HUGE new housing site on green belt land in Solihull has been given the go-ahead despite fears over the "demise" of an historic village.

Kler Group Limited applied in November 2023 for outline planning permission to build a new housing estate in the 'Arden Triangle'.

The site is officially known as KN2 and lies to the south of Knowle village centre, surrounded by Warwick Road, Station Road and Grove Road.

Kler Group applied build up to 450 homes, 40% of which would be affordable and 5% self and custom built.

Solihull Council officers, who recommended the scheme for approval, said that although it could be viewed as inappropriate development of the green belt, "very special circumstances to justify the development do exist."
