Victory for campaigners as modernist icon listed

THE Brutalist University of Wolverhampton School of Art has been awarded grade ll listed status following a campaign to preserve it.

The building is an iconic landmark in the city with an unusual sculptural exo skeleton of precast modular panels.

The university had plans for the redevelopment of the site and the demolition of the building.

But there was an outcry from students, staff, and fans of Modernist architecture from across the country.

A campaign gathered 7,000 signatures on a petition opposing the demolition.
