UNAI Emery was coy on Emi Martinez's future after Aston Villa's 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

- By JOHN TOWNLEY

The goalkeeper was sent off at the end of the first half after engaging with Rasmus Hojlund following a sloppy back pass from Matty Cash.

Martinez was the last man before Hojlund had an empty net to aim at, despite being at an angle.

Sub keeper Robin Olsen then replaced Marco Asensio and conceded twice in the second half, but not before Villa should have taken the lead through Morgan Rogers.

The Villa forward scored a perfectly legal goal, knocking the ball against Altay Bayındır's hand before then finding the net, but referee Thomas Bramall thought the United goal keeper had control of the ball.

He blew his whistle before Rogers scored, meaning VAR could not intervene and correct his wrong decision.

Before the match, Emery was asked about Martinez's future in his pregame interview on TNT.

He said "no way" when asked if Martinez was about to play his last game for the club.

However, after the defeat, Emery wasn't so clear in his response when asked whether failing to secure Champions League football would mean Martinez could now leave the club.
