Tragic Diogo left indelible mark on Molineux faithful

EVERYONE who watched Wolves between 2017 and 2020 knew how fortunate they were.

Wolves hadn’t seen a team that good in a generation.

It was driven by a Portuguese manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, and two Portuguese players making their way in the game, Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota.

While Neves made everything appear beautiful, Jota was a force of nature that absolutely nobody wanted to play against.

Rather than drop a shoulder or perform a step-over to outwit his marker, Jota would invariably bulldoze his way through like a 5ft 9ins wrecking ball. It wasn't always pleasing on the eye, but by God it was effective.

Jota, 20 at the time, made light work of the Championship with 17 goals for a title-winning Wolves side before making the Premier League his home.
