GOLF: Elvis Smylie, Ryan Fox and Carlos Ortiz were tied at the top of the leaderboard after the first day of action at the Crown Australian Open in Melbourne but Rory McIlroy found himself seven shots off the lead.
The trio reached six under par to top the pile while Masters champion McIlroy endured a tough opening day, shooting a one-over-par 72.
