LOUIE Barry is still expected to leave Villa this summer after seeing a proposed move to Hull City fall through last week.

- By JOHN TOWNLEY

The clubs agreed on a deal worth £3.5 million, with Villa also including a 50% sell-on clause. However, the Championship side quickly discovered a move wasn’t going to be achievable.

Hull have started the process of appeal after it was confirmed they have been handed the punishment of a three-window transfer fee restriction by the EFL.

According to sources in Hull, the Tigers are no longer under a transfer embargo after settling an outstanding debt with Villa surrounding Barry's loan in January, but the punishment for failure to make payments within a 30-day period stands, although the club are appealing with a degree of confidence.

Barry has other suitors in the Championship, and his value is already known, alerting other clubs to the possibility of signing him - but Villa’s sell-on clause may be a sticking point.
