New police powers to sack 'unfit cops'

POLICE officers who fail background checks will be automatically sacked under new rules.

Measures introduced to Parliament on Wednesday will make it a legal requirement for officers to pass vetting, which will mean police chiefs will be able to get rid of officers from next month.
