Murder probe launched after man dies in blaze

TWO men heroically raised the alarm following a Birmingham house fire which led to the death of a man and has prompted a murder investigation.

The two lads, in their 20s, live in flats in Glenavon Road, near to the Saxons Way cul-de-sac in Highters Heath where the fire, which police believe was started deliberately, took hold shortly before lam yesterday.

A man suffered critical injuries and despite the efforts of medics who gave advanced life support he died a short time after arriving at hospital.

The two men told the Mail that they were alerted to the blaze when they heard a bang and “there was so much smoke we couldn't even see the bus stop”.

The men, who asked not to be identified, said they went over to the house on fire and banged on neighbours doors, shouting to raise the alarm.

They woke a woman living below the flat where the man died and believe had they not woke her she could have been killed.
