LIGHTS SWITCHED OFF AS POLICE HUNTED 'KNIFEMAN'

TERRIFIED pupils were locked in a Birmingham school and plunged into darkness as police probed reports of a boy with a knife outside.

Children were kept inside for almost an hour amid “mad panic” at Green Meadow Primary School in Selly Oak on Wednesday afternoon. Lights were turned off as officers rushed to the scene at around 3pm.

Police received a report of a teenage boy with a knife outside the school, which is part of the Excelsior Multi Academy Trust. But despite a search of the area no suspect was located.
