Hundreds sign petition in call for road safety measures after tragedy

HUNDREDS of people have signed a petition calling for new safety measures on a Sutton Coldfield road where a man died.

The victim, in his late 70s, was in collision with a car in Thornhill Road in Streetly shortly before 6pm on Saturday, August 16.

Ambulance paramedics could not save the pensioner and he died at the scene.

The driver, a man, was treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Good Hope Hospital.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

West Midlands Police said he had been released on bail while investigations continued.

A second crash happened on the same road on Wednesday, August 20, involving three cars.
