WOMAN WHO LOST HER FRIEND IN BUS STOP HORROR BACKS CALL

- STEPHANIE BALLOO News Reporter

A WOMAN who narrowly escaped death when she was hit by a speeding car has added her voice to the Birmingham Mail's campaign to impose lifelong bans on killer drivers.

Harriet Barnsley was at a bus stop with her best friend Rebecca McManus when Sukvinder Mannan smashed his red Mitsubishi Evolution into the shelter at 101mph in May 2014.

Rebecca died at the scene, in Hagley Road West, and Harriet was left in a coma.

Mannan was jailed for eight years in 2015 after Wolverhampton Crown Court was told he lost control in a street race with another driver.

Harriet, then 21, says she has been left to suffer the ‘hellish’ aftermath, with severe, life-changing injuries.

The Birmingham Mail has this week launched a campaign calling for lifelong bans for motorists who maim or kill through reckless driving.
